Harold G. "Bud" Holtel

Born: September 05, 1920
Died: June 25, 2013

U.S. VeteranHarold G. “Bud” Holtel, age 92 of Batesville, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Margaret Mary Health. Born September 5, 1920 in Oldenburg, Indiana, he is the son of Caroline (Nee: Brockman) and William Holtel. He married Regina Jacks October 6, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bud served in the Army during World War II earning three bronze stars. After the service he spent 37 years with Hill-Rom as an Engineer and was a member of St. Louis Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #1461.

Bud loved spending time with family. When Hill-Rom would shut down in the summer, he would load everyone up and hit the road for a family vacation. According to the kids, several of them would end grounded by the time they made back home. Other favorite trips were yearly family get-togethers in New York and a trip to Rome and the chance to meet the Pope. He truly enjoyed his grandchildren. He and Reggie were always willing to jump in the car and attend their activities and functions. Apparently nobody else had much luck teaching them how to drive a stick, but grandpa could. Learning to play cards from his grandfather, he in turn taught his grandchildren and they would play 500 often. He had a weakness for coconut cream pie and in later years, he and Reggie liked eating out. Panera Bread became one of his favorites. They were former Hillcrest Country Club members and Bud was a volunteer at the hospital as well as taking communion to the home bound.

He is survived by his wife Reggie; daughters Mimi Ryan of Batesville, Donna Duffy of Hollis, New Hampshire, Susan Arcy of Dublin, Ohio, Sharon Berger of Carmel, Indiana; sisters Ruth Holtel of Cincinnati, Irene McNamara of New York, New York, Carol Walke of Cincinnati; brother Mark Holtel of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his daughter Mary Angel Holtel, sister Bernice Holtel and brothers Jerome and Fr. Melvin Holtel, O.F.M.

Visitation is Friday, June 28th, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Methodist Church Summer Food Program or the Alzheimer’s Association.
