Jacob J. Werner, age 71 of Indianapolis and formerly of Batesville, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at St. Vincent’s Hospice in Indianapolis. Born November 3, 1935 in Batesville, he is the son of Cleopha (Nee: Bedel) and Matt Werner. He married Marcia Prickel October 5, 1957 at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris.Jake served in the Navy from 1955-1957. After the service, he worked at Batesville Casket Company as Operations Manager until his retirement. He loved the outdoors and especially liked gardening. Jake was a member of the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and St. Louis Church. He served for 12 years as President of the Batesville Park and Recreation Board; eight years on the Board of the Batesville Library and also was a long time Junior Achievement advisor and CCD instructor for St. Louis Church.He is survived by his wife Marcia; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Chuck Meer of Indianapolis; sons and daughter-in-laws Melvin and Lisa Werner of Memphis, Tennessee, Malcolm “Mac” Werner of Georgetown, Kentucky, Myron and Laurie Werner of Mooresville, North Carolina; sisters Betty Young of Greensburg, Sr. Cleo Werner O.S.F. of Oldenburg, Lorene Brancamp of Greensburg, Theresa Nobbe of St. Maurice, Dolores Amberger of St. Mary’s, Marty Doll of Columbus, Mary Merkel of Morris, Regina Lowe of Greensburg, Rita Meyer of Hamburg, Carol Schwegman of St. Mary’s, Ella Mae Amberger of Batesville; brothers Virgil of Batesville, Kenneth of Florence, Kentucky, Uriel of Batesville, Charles of Greensburg; 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brother Albert.Friends may call Friday, March 30th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral Home. A memorial mass follows at 1:30 p.m. at St. Louis Church with Msgr. Paul Koetter officiating. Military rites will take place on the plaza in front of church following services and will be conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. A private family burial will be held in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Elizabeth’s Home
