Lois J. Wanstrath Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lois J. Wanstrath, age 84 of Batesville, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born January 3, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she is the daughter of Myrle (Nee: Rhonemus) and Charles Grift. She married Louis Wanstrath August 6, 1949 at Forest Hills, Kentucky and he preceded her in death February 1, 1981. She was a Registered Nurse and a homemaker. Lois attended Ursuline Academy in Cincinnati and was a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in northern Kentucky. She was a member of St. Louis Church, former 30 year Board of Director for the Golden Villa, former member of the Memorial Building Corporation and the Memorial Building Restoration Committee, served on the Batesville Library Board 16 years and was selected by the Batesville Chamber of Commerce in 1995 as their Distinguished Service Award recipient. For Lois faith and giving back were staples of her life. She was very active with projects and functions at St. Louis Church in addition to the Batesville community donating not only money, but her time and talents as well. Her family had horses growing up and she held fond memories of them throughout her life. A unique hobby Lois enjoyed was collecting quilts. She often attended auctions looking for Amish quilts to purchase and would then donate them to local charities. She was an avid Cincinnati Reds fans and in recent years liked going to the casino’s to play slot machines. Her true passion though was family. When her children were younger she liked attending their sporting events and when the grandchildren came along, she adored having them around. She loved having family around anytime, but especially during the holidays and always looked forward to planning the Wanstrath, Grift and Krehnbrink family reunions. Her children talked about mom being a good cook and an exceptional baker. Her baked goods and her homemade jellies were their favorites. She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws Nancy and Jake Flannery of Batesville, Cynthia Wanstrath-Whittaker of Batesville, Rita and Bill Jerden of Bloomington, Indiana; sons and daughter-in-laws Theodore of Highland Heights, Kentucky, Steve of Batesville, Dan and Jan of Shelbyville, Indiana, Mark of Cincinnati, Ohio, William (Bill) and Cindy of Batesville; sister Elaine Voorhees of Ryland Heights, Kentucky; seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death sister Marcella Krehnbrink and brother Charles (Bud) Grift.Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, October 12th, at the funeral home with a rosary service at 3:45 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, October 13th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Bill Farris O.F.M. officiating followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to New Horizons Rehabilitation Center.
