September 27, 1936 - September 27, 2015
Mary F. Wooten, age 79 of Batesville, died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at her residence. Born January 7, 1936 in Manchester, Kentucky, she is the daughter of Lucy (Nee: Curry) and Calloway Jarvis. She married James Wooten August 21, 1954 in Jelico, Tennessee and he preceded her in death October 12, 2005. Mary was a homemaker. Mary's life revolved around her family and she dearly loved her grandchildren. It was her nature to want to nurture and take care of them. She truly enjoyed playing board games with them, especially Scrabble. She was also very devout and liked to sit by the fire and sing her favorite hymns. In her younger years the family spent a great deal of time boating on the water, fishing and taking in the joys of nature and the outdoors. She and Jim also enjoyed gardening. Jim took care of the flowers while Mary looked after the vegetable garden. Games shows were among her favorites when watching television and according to her family, she was an exceptional cook. "She made the greatest biscuits and gravy. We already miss them." She herself had a weakness for banana pudding. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Diane and Earl Rowland of Batesville; son Keith Wooten of Indianapolis; sisters Judy West of Archdale, North Carolina, Brenda Kay Hilyard of Lima, Ohio; brothers James Jarvis and John Samples, both of Lima, Ohio; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Joy Lee Gibson; brothers Joseph and Raymond Jarvis and one great grandson. Visitation is Saturday, October 3rd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 1 p.m. with her grandson Rev. James Rowland officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery Crossroads. The family requests memorials to the March of Dimes.
