Thomas C. Zins
April 5, 1958 - April 5, 2013
Thomas C. Zins, age 55 of Batesville, died Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus. Born April 30, 1957 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he is the son of Ruth Doolan (Nee: Feldkamp) and Howard Zins. He was a youth minister at several churches in the area for nearly 30 years. Tom’s mind was equal parts creative and philosophical. He played guitar, sang and counted Led Zeppelin among his favorites groups, but his daughter also remembers songs he would write and sing to her and her brother at bedtime. He enjoyed being around young people and as a parent and youth minister he would constantly remind them to live each moment. Tom liked being outdoors with nature and taking long walks. He also watched a lot of movies. While he favored musicals, his favorite movie was Gandhi. When his children were younger, he would occasionally take them fishing. Other activities he enjoyed with them were playing pool, bowling and cards, either 500 or Rummy. His daughter laughed about dad being competitive and wanting to win at whatever they were playing. He is survived by his daughter Sarah Zins of Los Angeles, California; mother Ruth Doolan of Batesville; father Howard Zins of Honolulu, Hawaii; sisters Therese Zins of Greensburg, Indiana, Mary Bergman of Brookville, Indiana, Carol Roell of Batesville, Patty Zins of Batesville, Judy Franzen of California, Kentucky and brothers Mike and Jerry Zins, both of Batesville. He is preceded in death by his son Matthew and brother Joseph Zins. Visitation is Tuesday, April 9th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10th, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg with Rev. Greg Friedman officiating. A private family burial will be held at St. Mary’s of the Rock Cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Holy Family Religious Education Fund.
