Agnes E. Hortemiller's Obituary
Agnes E. Hortemiller, age 85 of Batesville, died Friday, August 13, 2010, at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born November 4, 1924 in Morris, Indiana, she is the daughter of Josephine (Nee: Kuntz) and Aloysius Weisenbach. She married Paul Hortemiller October 25, 1947 at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris and he preceded her in death April 10, 2006. She was a homemaker and worked part time at The Ship as a lunchtime waitress for 10 years and also as a sales clerk at Nolte’s Pharmacy for 15 years. A member of St. Louis Church, she was also a member of the Batesville V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary where she held several offices, a lifetime member of the Knights of St. John’s Ladies Auxiliary serving as secretary for 25 years and a member of the Golden Citizens Club.Aggie was very generous with her time. A volunteer at the Waters of Batesville Nursing Facility for over 25 years, she was honored with as volunteer of the year in 1992. Her faith was important to her and she spent 50 years volunteering in various capacities at St. Louis Church and St. Louis School. In later years she was a Eucharistic Minister and would visit home bound individuals. An avid card player, she enjoyed playing “500”. Her family recalls mom being an excellent cook. “Everything she made was delicious.” Family picnics during the summer were common and they also remember each year the large amount of canning and freezing of produce she did with from their garden. Family was important to Aggie. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of the sporting events and activities they participated in.She is survived by daughters Marilyn Davis of Greensburg, Carolyn Dieckmann, Mary Beth Dickman, both of Batesville; sons William and Robert of Batesville; twin sisters Monica Poole and Rita Wahl, both of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky; step sister Anna Mae Wagner of Batesville, step brother Albert Niehaus of Connersville, Indiana; 14 grandchildren and four and half great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her stepmother Laura Weisenbach and brother Raphael Weisenbach. Visitation is Monday, August 16th, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. by the Batesville V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Bernard Varghese officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Louis School Tuition Angels.
