Agnes T. Smith's Obituary
Agnes T. Smith, age 83 of Batesville, Indiana, died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. Born May 1, 1927 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Agnes (Nee: Schwenen) and Henry Fieler. On August 3, 1974, she married Ross Smith at St. John’s Catholic Church in Enochsburg, Indiana bringing two families together as one and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2003.Agnes lived nearly her entire life in the same house in which she was born on Mulberry Street. With the help of her father, she raised her three boys while working as a grocery clerk at A&P then later at Kroger’s. She also worked at the Eagle’s lodge in Batesville where she met Ross. Together Agnes and Ross loved to travel. While Hawaii and Alaska were among their destinations, their favorite trips were always to see their children and grandchildren spread out around the country. Agnes was a lifelong Cincinnati Reds fan. While in high school, she often took the train to the city to see an afternoon baseball game then took the train back home in the evening in time for supper. Working crossword puzzles was one of Agnes’ favorite pastimes, along with working on her flower garden and watching hummingbirds. She was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church and its ladies society, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1130 Ladies Auxiliary, New Horizons Rehabilitation Center Guild and the Y.M.C.A. Live Y'ers.The Lynd and Smith families would like to thank everyone for your kindness, your thoughts and your prayers. While we mourn the loss of Agnes, we know that she is beginning a joyous life anew with Ross and all of those who went before her. She is survived by her sons Russel “Rusty” (Lennie) Lynd of Milan, Indiana, Randall (Connie) Lynd of Goshen, Indiana, Rick Lynd of Batesville; step-daughter Constance (Martin) Brunner of Batesville; step-sons David (Kim) Smith of Bemidji, Minnesota, Stephen (Janet) Smith of Bloomington, Indiana, Timothy (Nora) Smith of Edinburg, Texas; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren In addition to her parents and husband Ross, she was preceded in death by sisters Cecilia and Theresa Fieler, Mary Frensemeier; brothers Harry and Lawrence Fieler.Visitation is Tuesday, October 5th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services are Wednesday, October 6th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Church in Batesville, with Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery – Huntersville. Memorials may be made to New Horizons Rehabilitation Center or Batesville E.M.S.-10.
