Alban D. Prickel's Obituary
Alban D. Prickel, age 89 of Morris, Indiana, died Monday, November 16, 2009, at the Waters of Batesville. Born January 10, 1920 in Ripley County Indiana, he is the son of Rose (Nee: Roell) and John Prickel. He married Coletta Bedel August 6, 1947 at St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg, Indiana. Alban served in the army during World War II as a medic and earned three bronze stars. He was a member of Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and St. Anthony’s Church in Morris.Alban was a farmer and a long time bus driver for the Batesville and Sunman Dearborn School Corporations. A devoted member of St. Anthony’s, he was very generous with his time and talents having served on most all of the church committees and functions through the years including the Labor Day Picnic Chairman, Bingo Chairman and the Parish Council. During the holidays, he was in charge of the heat barrels for the live nativity. He was a baseball fan who liked the Atlanta Braves, tolerated the Cincinnati Reds and hated the New York Yankees. Another of his interests was gardening. Each year he planted a large plot and truly enjoyed sharing his harvest with family and friends. He also liked his wine and discussing World War II. Many will miss him at the barber shop and V.F.W., where he would regularly stop in and discuss hot topics or shovel a little fertilizer. Alban enjoyed being around people and time spent with family was extremely important to him.He is survived by his wife Coletta; daughter and son-in-law Ruth Ann and Marvin Gehring of Oldenburg, Indiana; sons and daughters-in-laws Raymond and Joyce Prickel of Sunman, Indiana, Joseph and Marlene Prickel, Steve and Amy Prickel, both of Morris; sister Rita Stahley of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers Cletus, David, Max, Omer and Iveo Prickel.Visitation is Thursday, November 19th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, November 20th, at St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to St. Anthony’s Cemetery Fund.
