Albert F. Giesting's Obituary
Albert F. Giesting, age 90 of Batesville, died Friday, June 15, 2007, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born December 31, 1916 in Franklin Co. Indiana, he is the son of Mary (Nee: Macke) and John Giesting. He married Josephine Wessler on January 12, 1946 at St. Johns Church in Enochsburg, Indiana and she preceded him in death March 22, 1988.Al served in the Army during World War II as an airplane mechanic and flight chief of the 352nd Fighter Squadron’s P-51 Mustang planes in the air offensives over Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes. He earned a bronze star, a silver star and a distinguished Unit Citation with an Oak Leaf Cluster. After the service, he worked as a mechanic at Fields Motors for over 30 years. Al was a member of the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and was a past commander, the 352nd Fighter Group Association and St. Louis Church.He is survived by his daughter Mary Sue Deepe of Kingston, North Carolina; sons William of Batesville, Lawrence of Culpepper, Virginia, Terrance of West Chester, Ohio, Timothy of Batesville; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by his son Joseph; sister Monica Wessler and brothers Clarence and Richard.Visitation is Sunday, June 17th, from 1-5 p.m. at the funeral home. A rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, June 18th, at St. Louis Church with burial in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #371. Memorials may be made to the Batesville V.F.W. or Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research.
