Albert N. Grossman's Obituary
Albert N. Grossman, age 77 of Batesville, died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at his residence. Born October 1, 1938 in Ripley County Indiana, he is the son of Elizabeth (Nee: Messang) and Sylvester Grossman. He married Viola Schomber June 27, 1959 at St. Anthony's Church in Morris. Al was an insurance salesman for Western-Southern Insurance 35 years. He served in the Army Reserve and was a member of Holy Family Church.
Born post-depression era, Al never threw anything away, much to Vi's dismay. Even worse, he enjoyed attending farm sales and always found more "junk" to bring home. An avid gardener, each year he would put out a large plot and enjoyed sharing his bounty with friends and neighbors and then canning the surplus. Other hobbies included collecting coins, creating wood crafts, raising rabbits, as well as watching Dr. Phil and Judge Judy. A prankster, Al enjoyed teasing people and apparently had a bit of a sweet tooth. Pies and cookies were his favorites and he considered "any meal without dessert only half a meal."
He is survived by his wife Vi; daughters Melissa Jones of Batesville, Shannon Reeves of Pikeville, Kentucky; sons Brian of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Darryl of Sunman, Roger of Oldenburg, Steve of Fishers, Indiana; sisters Mary Ann Maple of Columbus, Indiana, Rita Robbins of Greensburg, Alma Carson of Sunman, Ruth Wagers of Sarasota, Florida; brothers Leonard of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Raphael and Martin, both of Columbus, Indiana, fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother Paul.
Visitation is Monday, November 16th, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 17th at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Margaret Mary Health Hospice Foundation or the Holy Family Capital Improvement Fund.
