Albert L. Hoegeman Sr.'s Obituary
Albert L. Hoegeman Sr., age 74 of Batesville, Indiana, died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at his residence. Born August 19, 1936 in Batesville, he is the son of Philomena (nee: Wagner) and Anthony Hoegeman Sr. He married Callie Jewell July 2, 1956 at Brookville, Indiana. He joined the Army in 1954 just after the Korean War and served for 21 years through the Vietnam War before being discharged in 1975. He was a member of the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.If you knew Albert, you knew he enjoyed life. His family recalled how he liked telling jokes and his big, deep belly laughs that often started before he got to the punch line. Time spent with the grandchildren was special to him and he took pleasure in joking and teasing with them. Of his many of his hobbies, most involved being outdoors. In younger years he often would go deer, squirrel and rabbit hunting as well as fishing and frog gigging. Activities that brought him indoors were music and bowling. A long time league bowler, he is a member of the Batesville Bowling Hall of Fame. Albert liked playing the guitar and singing too. While his family indicated that he was a decent singer and could certainly play the guitar, it was not unusual for the kids to run for the basement anyway, especially when he began to sing Hank Snow. In later years, he enjoyed stopping off at the riverboats to try his luck. He is survived by his wife Callie; daughters Margaret Barry and Brenda Allen, both of Batesville; sons Don of Batesville, Willie and Dave, both of Sunman; sister Mary Moorehouse of Little Rock, Arkansas; brother Phil Hoegeman of Batesville; 20 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Albert Jr. and brother Anthony Hoegeman Jr.Visitation is Wednesday, December 29th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday, December 30th also at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John’s Huntersville Cemetery with military rites being conducted by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183. The family requests memorials to Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research.
