Albert H. Mollaun's Obituary
Albert H. Mollaun, age 90 of Batesville, died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Margaret Mary Hospital. Born October 11, 1919 in Batesville, he is the son of Josephine (Nee: Haverkos) and Joseph Mollaun. He married Adeline Fields November 16, 1940 at St. Francis Seraph Church in Cincinnati and she preceded him in death September 27, 2007. He was a member of the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271, the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183, Batesville Eagles Club Aerie #1130 and St. Louis Church. Albert was office manager of the Ripley County Beverage Company for 55 years before retiring in 1999.Albert served in the Army’s 393rd Infantry during World War II, seeing extensive combat duty in the Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes including the Battle of the Bulge. He earned three bronze stars and the bronze star medal for bravery and meritorious service in addition to the Purple Heart. Albert was typical of what has been called the “The Greatest Generation.” He had a strong work ethic, dealt with people fairly and although he never spoke much about the war, the time he spent in the military serving his country was a great source of pride for him. He was easy to talk too and because of that probably never met a stranger. According to his family, “you always knew when dad was in an especially good mood because he would hum.” They couldn’t ever recall him speaking an unkind word about someone and although he was not good with tools, he certainly had a green thumb. In his younger years he was an accomplished golfer and bowler and in later years he enjoyed sitting outside relaxing. A huge game show fan, he loved to watch cable T.V.’s Game Show Channel and often would finish off the night by watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy before going to bed. Like many men of his time, Albert did not wear his emotions on his sleeve, but he dearly loved his family and more recently, Chloe the dog who became his constant companion. He is survived by daughters Donna (Willard) Wallpe of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bertie (Paul) Schoettelkotte of Columbus, Indiana, Darlene Mollaun of Columbus, Indiana, Brenda Filler of Morris, Indiana; sons Dan of Greensville, South Carolina, Bernie (Andrea) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters Mary Weigel, Joan Moorman, Rita Zimmerman, all of Batesville; 22 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital.
