Alberta C. Bedel's Obituary
Alberta C. Bedel, age 83 of Hamburg, died Friday, April 9, 2010 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born August 6, 1926 in Hamburg, she is the daughter of Rose (Nee: Lamping) and John Bedel. She was a member of St. Anne’s Church and the St. Anne’s Ladies Society.Bertie was a devoted daughter who cared for her parents until their deaths. An organized person, she believed in the adage “everything in its place and a place for everything.” Her family recalled that Bertie was particular about her appearance when going out. She wanted her hair and clothes “just so” or she didn’t go. They also recalled that in today’s world of e-mails and text messages, Bertie still preferred to correspond with hand written letters and would always include a little note in birthday cards, Christmas cards, etc. She enjoyed walking and weather permitting would enjoy a leisurely stroll down the lane to the mailbox and back home again. While most knew her as a quiet person, some things people maybe didn’t know about Bertie was her enormous sweet tooth and love of candy bars, that her favorite T.V. show was “Everybody Loves Raymond”, that she liked to cook and that a cold beer now and again was a good thing.She is survived by her sisters Alfreda Peters of Greensburg, Indiana, Coletta Prickel of Morris, Indiana; brother Ferdinand Bedel of Hamburg, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her sisters Cecilia Wesseler, Rosemary Meyer, Adeline Bedel, Ester Bedel, Antoinette Enneking, Dolores Weisenbach and brothers Leonard, Edmund, Alvin and Sylvester Bedel.Visitation is Sunday, April 11th, from 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary service at 3 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, April 12th, at St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg with Rev. George Nangachiveettil officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Anne’s Cemetery Fund or The Waters of Batesville Activity Fund.
