Alberta C. Messang's Obituary
Alberta C. Messang, age 78 of Florence, Indiana, and formerly of Morris, Indiana, died Friday, May 29, 2009. Born September 21, 1930 in Hamburg, Indiana, she is the daughter of Hilda (Nee: Lamping) and Henry Litzinger. She married Mike Messang November 14, 1959 at St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg and he preceded her in death in 1986. A member of St. Anne’s Ladies Sodality of St. Anthony’s Church in Morris, she worked at Batesville Casket Company for nine years before becoming a homemaker. Alberta shared many passions, none more important than her family. She loved playing cards and board games with her grandchildren. She equally enjoyed playing Euchre and “500” with the adults. A devoted bingo player, she would also help on bingo nights at St. Anthony’s. She liked creating arts and crafts as well as working word search puzzles. She would never pass up the opportunity to go mushroom hunting and until recent years when her health wouldn’t permit, she took pride in raising her garden and canning her harvest to enjoy throughout the year. An excellent cook and baker, her family recalls the chicken and homemade mashed potatoes as well as her turtle soup as some of their favorite meals.She is survived by daughters Rose Weaver of Patriot, Indiana, Mary Hann of Florence, Indiana, Mildred Bevis, also of Florence; sister Rita Litzinger of Oldenburg, Indiana; brothers Emil Litzinger of Morris, George Litzinger of Hamburg, Joe Litzinger of Batesville; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Joann Stoll, Marie Federle, Luella Creager, brother Wilbur Litzinger and two grandchildren. Visitation is Monday, June 1st, from 4-8 p.m., with a rosary service conducted at 6 p.m. Funeral services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 2nd, at St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Paschal Nduka officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Dearborn County or to the family.
