Alfred H. Dierckman's Obituary
Alfred H. Dierckman, age 88 of Oldenburg, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born October 16, 1919 in Franklin County Indiana, he is the son of Anna (Nee: Harmeyer) and Frank Dierckman. He married Mildred Werner April 26, 1944 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg.Al was a carpenter and worked at the Srs. of St. Francis Convent for 35 years before retiring in 1983. He was a long time member of the Eagle Fire Company and also served as Fire Chief, as well as a member of Holy Family Church. Al loved to work in his garden until the recent years when his health wouldn’t permit it. Unalbe to put in a garden, he turned his attention to his blueberry bushes. Although he took great pride in raising them, they also took less time to care for then the garden. With his extra time, he began embroidering quilt blocks. A lifetime spent as a carpenter, he enjoyed activities in which he could work with his hands. His true passion however, was his family and he looked forward to family gatherings for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays.He is survived by daughters Joan Volk of Mt. Carmel, Indiana, Alice Raver of Oldenburg; son Glen Dierckman of Los Angeles, California; sister Betty Ollier of Batesville; brother Emanuel Dierckman of Richmond, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister Jean Krody; brothers Stanley and Lambert Dierckman and grandson James Volk.Visitation is Wednesday, March 5th, from 4-8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6th, at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Eagle Fire Department or Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital.
