Arlyn K. Sorce's Obituary
Arlyn K. Sorce, age 75 of Batesville, died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Miller Senior Living Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born July 9, 1938 in Batesville she is the daughter of Kathryn (Nee: Goldsmith) and Clifford Fichtner. She married Joseph Sorce September 14, 1968 in Cincinnati, Ohio. A housewife for many years, she also spent seven years as keypunch operator for the University of Cincinnati and Suburban Key Punch Service and eleven years at Batesville Casket Company before retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Louis Church, the St. Rita School for Deaf Alumni Association, the Greater Cincinnati Deaf Club, a member of the Central Athletics Association of the Deaf (C.A.A.D.) and a former Miss C.A.A.D. pageant winner, a member of the International Catholic Deaf Association of the United States, a member of the Chicago Catholic Ephpheta of the Deaf and a member of the International Games of the Deaf (I.G.D.) and runner up for the I.G.D. pageant now known as the Deaflympics. Arlyn had many interests. A photography buff, she enjoyed organizing her pictures into photo albums. And like many women, she too, had a passion for shopping. With a strong maternal instinct, she loved being around babies and children. Her family indicated she was an excellent cook and her lasagna and chicken stew were the best. She had a bit of sweet tooth and apparently was a bit of chocoholic who baked “GREAT” brownies and was an ice cream junkie as well, according to her family. Arlyn liked reading Movie Star and People magazines, watching her favorite soap opera “All My Children” and seeing any movie with Ester Williams in it. She is survived by her husband Joe; sons and daughter-in-laws Joseph Sorce of Chicago, Illinois, David and Maria Sorce of Algonquin, Illinois, Paul and Joanne Sorce of Chatham, Illinois, Steven and Anjanette Sorce of Westfield, Indiana; sisters and brother-in-laws Darla and Hughie Benz of Batesville, Ella and Daniel Laker of Greensburg, Indiana, Mary Mays of Batesville; brothers and sister-in-law Richard and Barbara Fichtner of Stockton, California, Daniel Fichtner of Batesville and grandchildren Roseann, Marissa, Matthew, Cameron and Giovana as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Sorce and sister Judy Schutte.Visitation is Wednesday, February 5th, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church. A private family interment will be held. The family requests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.
