Barbara J. Hollins' Obituary
Barbara J. Hollins, age 54 of Batesville, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at her residence. Born December 5, 1959 in Louisville, Kentucky, she is the daughter of Betty (Nee: Abel) and Robert Ruth. She married Ben Hollins November 9, 1974 in Louisville and was a homemaker.
Barbara’s family described her as down-to-earth with a passion for nurturing. She truly enjoyed taking care of and doing for others. As the grandkids came along, they became her passion. She liked shopping for them and always had a special treat when they’d come to the house. Barbara liked the Christmas season and with grandchildren to buy for, made it even more special. Her family also talked about what a great cook she was. Although she excelled at southern style cooking, she was always willing to experiment with new dishes. She loved her Chihuahua Bella, like working in her vegetable garden, watching the television show “The Big Bang Theory”, playing bingo and visiting the riverboat in Lawrenceburg to try her luck.
She is survived by her husband Ben; sons and daughter-in-laws Chris and Jill of Batesville, Adam and Laura of Oldenburg; sisters Carol Melcher of New Albany, Indiana, Donna Smith of Louisville, Kentucky; brother Michael of Jeffersonville, Indiana and four grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Joann Hensley, Linda Ruth and brother Larry Ruth.
Services will be private. Memorials may be made to Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research.
