Carl J. Meyer's Obituary
Carl J. Meyer, age 69 of Oldenburg, died Sunday, February 21, 2010, at University Hospital in Cincinnati. Born March 21, 1940, he is the son of Eleanor (Nee: Riehle) and Carl L. Meyer. He married Clara Volk September 3, 1962 at St. Maurice Church in St. Maurice, Indiana. For 30 years he worked as a mechanic and parts manager for Ford Motor Company. He was a member of Holy Family Church and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.Carl’s interests tended to involve either working with his hands or being outdoors. In his free time, his family recalls that he was “always tinkering with something.” He like fixing things, especially mowers and over the years worked on many for both family and friends. He liked spending time fishing as well as dear hunting, something he passed on to his sons and grandsons. A hobby that involved both of his pleasures was gardening. Each year he would put out a moderate size garden and enjoyed spending the summer tending to it. His tastes were simple though, as his family remembers his fondness for steak and if you paired it with a potato perfection was achieved. Carl’s favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. Having the grandkids at the house made for a terrific time – as long as they didn’t get to going too fast on the riding lawnmower. He is survived by his wife Clara; daughter Jacqueline Meyer of Bloomington, Indiana; sons Roger of Greensburg, Indiana, Richard of Hamburg, Indiana; sister Barbara Eckerle of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; brother Paul of Milan, Indiana and seven grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his granddaughter Jessica Chadwick. Visitation is Wednesday, February 24th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, February 25th, at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research.
