Charles J. Nobbe's Obituary
Charles J. Nobbe, age 87 of Hamburg, Indiana, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Waters of Batesville. Born September 23, 1923 in Franklin County Indiana, he is the son of Matilda (Nee: Dwenger) and Matthias Nobbe. He married Helen Dickman September 18, 1947 at St. Nicholas Church near Sunman, Indiana. He served in the Army during World War II, seeing action in Normandy, the Rhineland and Northern France, earning three Bronze Stars. After the service he worked for Hillenbrand Industries as a receiving supervisor for 36 years before retiring in 1984 and was a member of the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg.Charlie’s true passion was the outdoors. The activity didn’t really matter although it might be deer hunting, fishing, trapping or chopping wood. His family doubts he realized how many boys and young men he touched during his lifetime teaching them trapping skills and skinning techniques. If someone needed help getting started or just had a question, he was the one they turned too. They also mentioned his love of the farm. Not so much the farming itself, but rather just being at the farm. He was also a loving father and uncle although his nephews laughed about the ornery streak he had in him and the enjoyment he got from teasing them. The family also remembers that right next to that ornery streak was a stubborn streak. “There were two ways to do things: Charlie’s way and ………… Charlie’s way.”He is survived by his wife Helen; daughter Sharon Lee Nobbe of Batesville; sister Anna Mae Kruthaupt of Sunman as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation is Saturday, September 25th, from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg. Funeral services follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. George Nangaghiveettil officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital.
