Daniel J. Lamping's Obituary
Daniel J. Lamping, age 47 of Hamburg, died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at his home. Born August 23, 1964 in Batesville, he is the son of Eydie (Nee: Merkel) and Joseph Lamping. He worked for Gauck Concrete Construction Company for 29 years. Dan was a member of St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg, the St. Anne’s Parish Council, current president of the Hamburg Knights of St. John #276 and in 2008 recipient of the Knight of the Year award, current president and a 25 year member of the Tri-County Conservation Club and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Many will remember Dan as the groundskeeper at St. Anne’s for the last 37 years. He accepted the position from a former member at the age of 10. A people person, he liked hanging out with his friends, enjoying a cold beer and often helped bartend at local weddings. Some of his free time was spent helping mom in the garden, squirrel and coon hunting, watching Matlock, Andy Griffith and Home Improvement or listening to the Red’s games. A T-bone steak on his birthday was a long standing tradition and his family spoke of his love for homemade chocolate chip cookies and that he peppered just about everything he ate. They also indicated a lot of people are going to miss his grits. 4 or 5 times a year, Dan would make a large batch and had a list of people he would deliver to until he ran out. When he made his next batch, he started up where he had last stopped on the list. He is survived by his mother Eydie of Hamburg; sisters Diane (Steve) Fullenkamp, Donna Hoeing, both of Batesville, Cindy Lamping of Stamford, Connecticut; brothers Mike and Greg Lamping, both of Hamburg as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph on January 25, 2003 and brother-in-law John “Buck” Hoeing on September 7, 2000. Visitation is Tuesday, June 26th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 27th, at St. Anne’s Church with Rev. George Nangachiveettil officiating followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital or the Hamburg Knights of St. John #276.
