Lynn and family. It is with great sadness that I hear of Dave's passing. I cannot tell you how much I admired him while I worked at Batesville Casket. He always genuinely cared about the people working and there families. It was evident with his own family. I have since purchased my own company outside of the funeral industry but try to stay in contact with the many friends that I have known for all those years at Batesville. Dave created a BIG family during his presidency and one that many wish were the same now. Dear Lynn and family, please accept my deepest sympathy on the occasion of Dave's death. He was truly a wonderful man, a friend of funeral service, and was one who knew the value of relationships. He was a relationship builder for Batesville Casket Company and among the people who made Batesville such a great Company. Dear Lynn and Family,We were truly saddened to hear of Dave's passing. Words are difficult to find to express my appreciation of all that Dave and you have meant to myself and my Family. When we first moved to Batesville in the early 70's, the entire Hirt Family made us feel so welcome. Dave and I even took on managing our sons Bart and Paul's baseball team when no one else selected them for a team. Dave was an exceptional coach in sports as well as business. As I recall we won the championship that first year. Dave helped make work with Batesville exceptionally special. Many a day I spent time in his office discussing the Future of Funeral Service as well as my own. He always had words of encouragement and I owe a lot to him. He is clearly one of the Greats and I will always hold Dave in the highest esteem. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.The Reukauf Family

What a loss. I am so privileged to have know Dave and his wonderful family. He was always such a great guy to visit with and learn his insight. Such a strong mind and visionary. He had passion for the funeral industry and rose to be a leader in the field. I will miss him, at least dad has someone to “solve the worlds’ problems” with in Heaven. I bet they even have a Sam Sneads. May you find solace in Faith and friends. I am thinking of you, and praying for you.
