Donald L. Wolljung's Obituary
Donald L. Wolljung, age 78 of Waxhaw, North Carolina and formerly of Sunman, died Sunday July 12, 2015 in Waxhaw. Born September 25, 1936 in Batesville, he is the son of Gertrude (Nee: Hill) and Philip Wolljung. He married Naomi Fields June 18, 1960 at St. Louis Church and she preceded him in death on May 6, 1996. Don served in the Air Force between the Korean and Vietnam wars. After the service, he would teach auto mechanics at Southeastern Career Center for 20 years. He also worked in automobile sales and farmed as well as being a former member of St. Louis Church.
Don was a no non-sense kind of guy who had two passions. The first was his family. Time together and caring for them was truly a joy for him. The other was working with his hands whether that was carpentry or farming. Because of his love for farming, it was more enjoyment than work for Don. He was also a Cincinnati Reds fan.
Don is survived by his sons and daughter-in-laws Greg and Mary of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kirk and Cemantha of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Tim of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister Alverta Shupe of Sunman, Indiana and eight grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother Virgil.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 18th, from 9 - 10 a.m. at the St. Louis Church in Batesville. A memorial service follows at 10 a.m. with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. A luncheon will be served at the Knights of Columbus following services. The family requests memorials to Phi Beta Sorority Cancer Research.
