Dorothy E. "Dottie" Heppner's Obituary
Dorothy E. “Dottie” Heppner, age 84 of Oldenburg and Ripley Crossing, died Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born March 19, 1924 in Buchanan, Michigan, she is the daughter of Margaret (Nee: Smith) and Michael Buckhave. She married Virgil “Bud” Heppner July 20, 1946 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1997.Over the years, Dottie enjoyed many interests up until recently when her health wouldn’t permit. She was an avid league bowler for many years with her husband. She was also involved with the Oldenburg Girl Scouts where she served as Troup Leader and held several terms as Director of the Girl Scout Camp in Batesville. An Accomplished seamstress, Dottie made most of her families’ clothing and she also liked to crochet afghans. Her creativity carried over to craft making and where she was part of a craft club from Oldenburg. With a passion for card playing, she and several of her friends formed a card club that met for more than 30 years. Dottie also liked to travel and took many trips and bus tours with Bud and her family during her lifetime.She was also active in the Ripley County V.F.W. Post #3183 Ladies Auxiliary, Holy Family Church and its’ ladies society, the Surviving Spouses Ministry and was a founding member of the Oldenburg Park Board, where she helped organize the re-development of the Gilbert Munchel Park.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Connie and John Moody of Batesville and granddaughters Lisa Honkomp of Puyallup, Washington and Traci Graham of Winchester, Kentucky, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by brothers Harold and Donald Buckhave. Visitation is Tuesday, December 9th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 10th, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Gilbert Munchel Park Fund or the Holy Family Religious Education Fund.
