Dorothy B. Duni's Obituary
Dorothy B. Duni, age 94 of Batesville and formerly of Fallbrook, California, died Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the St. Andrew’s Health Campus in Batesville. Born December 15, 1917 in Los Angeles, California, she is the daughter of Evelyn (Nee: Plumpton) and Robert Cook. She married Robert Duni September 21, 1940 in Las Vegas. Dorothy moved to Batesville in 2004 with her daughter and son-in-law and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. At the height of the depression, she dressed herself up to look much older than her 17 years of age and applied to be a legal secretary. With no experience, she was hired and worked six years until her first child was born. As a young mother, she was active as a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader and a Sunday school teacher. As her children got older, she volunteered her time for community service at the Angel Society as well as a Pink Lady at the hospital in Fallbrook. Dorothy enjoyed many interests. In her earlier years she loved playing golf, tennis and working in her flower garden. In later years she liked to watch golf and tennis on T.V., do the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper and was an avid reader especially of fictional stories set in historical locations or periods. As a child, her family vacationed often in New Port Beach or the Catalina Islands and as Dorothy got older, she began to travel enjoying visits to Europe, Thailand, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and her favorite destination of Hawaii. Because of their love for the ocean, she and her husband also took several cruises.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marsha and John Marincovich of Batesville; sons and daughter-in-law Bradley Duni of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Anthony and Ann Duni of Long Beach, California; Grandchildren and spouses Brian and Tracey Marincovich, Amy Marincovich, Julie and Ethan Pochman, Erin and Michael Shippey, Ethan and Jasmine Duni, Tyler Duni, Lisa and Joey Nicchitta, Sara and Kelley Bourland and great grandchildren Adam, Abby and Evan Marincovich; Andrew, Wyatt, Samuel, Gabriel and Emma Pochman; Matthew and Julia Shippey and Cora Nicchitta. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Grace Connaught, brother Stanley Cook and grandson Samuel Pochman.A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 18th, at the Masonic Cemetery in Fallbrook, California. Memorials may be made to the Humanitarian Fund or the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Batesville or the American Cancer Society.
