Edna Theresa Bedel's Obituary
Edna T. Bedel, age 93 of Batesville, Indiana, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus in Batesville. Born May 29, 1918 in Batesville, Indiana, she is the daughter of Theresa (Nee: Vogelsang) and William Hammerle. She married George Bedel November 25, 1948 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1997. Edna was a homemaker and during her working years was a nurse’s aide at Margaret Mary Community Hospital, a clerk at the IGA and Danner’s stores and was co-owner of the Day-Nite and Versailles Super Valu stores. She was a founding member of the Batesville Golden Citizens, a member of the Knight’s of St. John Ladies Auxiliary, State Board member on the Council for Aging and a former Franklin County Planning Commission member. Edna’s family was foremost in her life. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was very important to her. She loved taking her kids out fishing, going for walks and could often be found taking a drive in the car admiring all the different types of flowers that were blooming. Sometimes she would stop along the road and dig up some flowers and replant them at her home. She loved to make homemade wines and be in the kitchen baking, especially cinnamon rolls that her children said were “The Best”. Edna also loved to dance. She and George would often be seen at different events out on the dance floor. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Weiler of Harrison, Ohio; sons Michael of Milan, Indiana, Timothy of Batesville; Five Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by son Bernard; brothers Clarence and Robert Hammerle.Visitation is Wednesday, December 28th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at the funeral home, with a rosary service at 3:45 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Thursday, December 29th, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with Rev. Randy Summers officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Batesville Golden Citizens Club.
