Edna A. Bruns' Obituary
Edna A. Bruns, age 85 of Batesville, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at The Hearth at Stones Crossing in Greenwood, Indiana. Born March 4, 1925 in Decatur County Indiana, she is the daughter of Flora (Nee: Rolfes) and Raymond Dwenger. She married Edward “Doc” Bruns May 1, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church in Greensburg, Indiana and he preceded her in death January 27, 2000. A homemaker for most of her life, she spent 10 years as clerk for Blank’s Pharmacy in Batesville and was a member of St. Louis Church and the Hillcrest Country Club.Family was an important part of Edna’s life. Time spent with her children and grandchildren was time she treasured. A fantastic cook, her grandchildren remember her chicken tetrazzini, while her kids fondly recall the roast beef dinner every Sunday. That was a treat they continued to enjoy as adults. Her family described her as typical of being part of what has been termed the “greatest generation.” She was a tough, resilient and resourceful individual who endured the Depression and World War II, but also a soft, loving, caring person who was willing to help others. For many years she volunteered her time as a teacher’s aide for the Batesville Schools. Her children also recalled that during their younger years, the house was always open to their friends and because they were made to feel so welcomed, in turn, they considered her one of the gang. Edna and Doc liked to travel with Florida being a favorite stopping point. Golfing was an activity they enjoyed together and time spent with friends was usually on the golf course or at the country club. What her family remembers most about her was the example she set. Not only was she a wife and mother, but a best friend too.She is survived by daughter Cyndi Moeller of Batesville; sons Bob of Scottsdale, Arizona, Steve of Greenwood, Indiana; sisters Mary Jane Sullivan of Indianapolis, Pauline Mulvaney of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers Ralph and Russell Dwenger, both of Columbus, Indiana, Donald Dwenger of Florida; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Helen Sullivan and brother Robert Dwenger.Visitation is Tuesday, January 18th, from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Vince Lampert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or Saints Francis and Clare CYO.
