Edna M. O'Brien's Obituary
Edna M. O’Brien, age 88 of Cincinnati, Ohio and formerly of Oldenburg, Monday, May 11, 2009, at the Twin Towers in Cincinnati. Born August 27, 1920 in Franklin Co. Indiana, she is the daughter of Katherine (Nee: Schrank) and Conrad Roth. She married William O’Brien June 13, 1951 at St. Margaret Mary’s Church in North College Hill, Ohio. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1993. She served in the Women’ Army Corp (WAC) from during World War II and after the service became a homemaker.With a family of eight to raise, Edna stayed busy keeping the household running smoothly. She liked outdoor activities which included her flower gardens in the front of the house and her vegetable garden in back. She also enjoyed taking long walks. Her family remembers her as “a country girl” who was unpretentious and made friends easily. They also recall what a good cook she was and some of their favorite dishes she made included cheese soufflés and lasagna. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Cathy O’Brien of Cincinnati, Tara O'Brien and Jerry Cockson of Denver, Colorado, Peggy O’Brien of Cincinnati, Maria Berger of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sons and daughter-in-law Terry O'Brien and Charlene Degener of Portland, Oregon, Bill O’Brien, Tom O’Brien and Dan O’Brien, all of Cincinnati; sisters Stella Tertinsky of Cincinnati, Rita Schuler of Mebane, North Carolina; brothers Albert Roth of Cincinnati, Howard Roth of Brookville, Indiana and grandchildren Kiera Degener-O'Brien and Brendan O’Brien-Cockson. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother Paul Jansing.Visitation will be private. Friends may join the family 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 15th, for a funeral mass at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg with Rev. David Kobak, O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Rita’s School for the Deaf, which her father helped establish.
