Edward G. Moeller's Obituary
Edward G. Moeller, age 95 of Hamburg, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at The Waters of Batesville. Born September 16, 1917 in Franklin County Indiana, he is the son of Catherine (Nee: Meyer) and John Moeller. He married Coletta Cook March 3, 1973 at St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg. Frances, his first wife, preceded him in death in 1971. Ed served in the Army during World War II, earning 2 bronze stars. Returning from the war, he would farm the rest of his life and was a member of St. Anne’s Church, the Knights of St. John and the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183.Ed liked traveling and pulling a camper. For their honeymoon, he and Coletta took off on the open road with the camper in tow. It was something they would do for many years. He also loved horse racing and at one time owned a race horse named Outlandish. His family indicated that while he wasn’t necessarily an avid reader, he did enjoy the daily paper from cover to cover. They teased about his love of Hawaiian music, his frugalness and his fondness of food. Apparently Ed’s appreciation for Hawaiian music was not shared by his family and could be used as a wake-up call for those getting in a little late the night before. Although he grew a garden and absolutely loved fresh produce, the kids think it was more about saving money and not having to go to the grocery store. They also laughed that while he didn’t have a favorite food, there wasn’t anything he didn’t like. But for all the kidding they gave him, they know that these habits were learned in part from growing up through the Depression. He is survived by his wife Coletta; daughters Jane Boldrick of The Villages, Florida, Patricia Long of Cape Coral, Florida, Jacqueline Moorman of Crescent Springs, Kentucky; step daughters Judith Leising of Hamburg, Sandra Gutzwiller of Batesville; son Donald Moeller of Las Vegas, Nevada; step sons Ronald Leising of Carmel, Indiana, William Leising of Oldenburg, Indiana, Thomas Leising of Hamburg; two grandchildren; twenty one step grandchildren and thirty six step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife Frances, he is also preceded in death by daughter Rose Anne Moeller; son Mark Moeller; step son David Leising; sister Ann Moeller; brothers Frank, Herman and Aloysius Moeller and one step grandchild. Visitation is Monday, February 25th, from 9 – 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. George Nangachiveettil officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to the Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation or St. Anne’s Cemetery Fund.
