Eileen D. Feldman's Obituary
Eileen D. Feldman, age 89 of Batesville, died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. Born July 21, 1919 in Dayton, Ohio, she is the daughter of May (Nee: Quinn) and John Donovan Sr. She married Irvin Feldman June 30, 1945 at Holy Family Church in Dayton, Ohio. She was a nurse and worked for 10 years at St. Elizabeth Hospital and 10 years at the Vine Street School in Dayton, as well as a member of St. Louis Church in Batesville.Eileen was proud of her Irish background. Although she and Irvin enjoyed traveling, especially in the western part of the United States, her favorite destination were the trips to Ireland. An excellent cook, her family remembers the delicious meals she loving prepared for them. True to her Irish heritage, she was well known for her Irish Soda Bread, requested by family and friends often. Her son recalls being fortunate not having to mow since Eileen liked working out in the yard. When she and Irvin moved to Batesville, she learned to play Bridge and was a member of one of the local Bridge Clubs for years. She also joined the YMCA, where she became part of “The Live Wires”, and enjoyed numerous trips and activities with the group. Perhaps the most remarkable memory for her family was Eileen’s decision to learn to swim at 75 years young. She is survived by her daughters Maureen Reis of Cincinnati, OH, Eileen Eicher of Sunman, IN; sons Patrick of Chicago, IL, Thomas of Villa Hills, KY; brother John Donovan Jr. of Cherry Valley, CA; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Mary Louise Shrimel and Patricia Volpe. Visitation is Monday, July 20th, from 10-11 a.m. at St. Louis Church. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Stephen Akange officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Andrew’s Activity Fund.
