Eileen A. Salatin's Obituary
Eileen A. Salatin, age 92 of Morris, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at The Waters of Batesville. Born March 15, 1917 in Ripley County Indiana, she is the daughter of Frances (Nee: Risselman) and Harry Ertel. She married Harold Salatin July 11, 1936 at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and the Ladies Sodality as well as the Knights of St. John’s Ladies Auxiliary. In later years, Eileen enjoyed watching television. She followed the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” and “Judge Judy”, but some may be surprised to find out she also watched sports. She liked NASCAR and to the surprise of her boys, she was a Colts fan. An excellent cook, they fondly recalled the wonderful meals she would make. Eileen was a devoted employee of St. Anthony’s Church for many years, where she was responsible for the care and upkeep of Shad Hall as well as the church. Being an outstanding cook, she also took care of making the meals for wedding receptions at the hall. She truly enjoyed the many hours she spent at St. Anthony’s. Her sons teased their mom about “having to cross the tracks to find her” or “driving directly to the church if they wanted her, since she spent most of her time there.” She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws Roy and Diane Salatin, Gilbert and Debbie Salatin, Glenn and Janet Salatin, Dennis and Alisha Salatin, Gregory Salatin, all of Batesville; sisters Phyllis Moeller of Hamilton, Ohio, Viola Grossman of Batesville; brothers Herschel Ertel of Cedar Grove, Indiana, Daniel Ertel of Batesville, Mark Ertel of Oldenburg, Indiana; 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her son Larry Salatin and brothers Harry Ertel and Julius Schomber. Visitation is Saturday, December 26th, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Pascal Nduka officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Anthony’s Roof Fund or The Waters of Batesville Activity Fund.
