Elizabeth J. "Betty" Rouse's Obituary
Elizabeth J. "Betty" Rouse, age 84 of Batesville, died Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Chateau of Batesville. Born October 1, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she is the daughter of Mary Josephine (Nee: Glaub) and Joseph Meister. She married Gayle Rouse May 27, 1950 in Cincinnati, Ohio and he preceded her in death June 16, 1977. She worked 18 years as a teller at Fifth-Third Bank before retiring in 1989. After retirement, Betty became a snow bird, spending the winter months in the Pensacola Florida area where she was active as a Eucharist Minister and Server at St. Ann's Church in Gulf Breeze. Back home in Batesville, she attended St. Louis Church. Betty loved sports. A long time Reds and Bengals fan, she also followed Butler and I.U. basketball and with a grandson on the team, became a booster for the University of Louisville football team. Other hobbies she enjoyed were working crossword puzzles and bowling. She was a league bowler for over thirty years. Her family remembers mom as a good cook who made simple, tasty, country style meals. They also discussed the love she had for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and the unique bond she had with each one. Betty is survived by her son David (Pat) Rouse of Columbus, Ohio; daughters Cynthia (Larry) Hillman of Pensacola, Florida, Diana (Ron) Burkhart of Columbus, Indiana, Jeri (Jeff) Johnson of Louisville, Kentucky, Jackie (Jerry) Roell of Batesville, Linda (Joe) Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; brother Paul Meister of Osgood, Indiana; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Rosella Holzer, Lenora Cool and brothers Robert, Frank, John, Joseph and William Meister. Visitation is Monday, March 31st, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1st at St. Louis Church with Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Morris, Indiana. The family requests memorials to the Oldenburg Academy Tuition Assistance Fund.
