Elmer B. Dierckman's Obituary
Elmer B. Dierckman, age 89 of Batesville, died Friday, December 27, 2013 at Margaret Mary Health. Born March 16, 1924 in Ripley County Indiana, he is the son of Ruth (Nee: Kirschner) and Edward Dierckman. He married Rosemary Doll August 12, 1950 at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris and she preceded him in death February 25, 2006. Elmer served in the Navy during World War II and after the service, he would work at Batesville Casket Company as a welder for 38 years before retiring in August of 1987. He was a member of St. Louis Church, the Knights of St. John Commandry #276 and the Batesville V.F.W. Hearing Elmer’s name, one almost immediately thinks of his garden. Driving down Central Avenue during the summer, you couldn’t help but see that patch of ground full of tall, bushy and well loaded plants bearing a bumper crop of vegetables year after year. Some things you may not know about Elmer include his love of ice cream, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, working crossword puzzles in addition to playing 500 and solitaire. In his earlier years he did some hunting and the kids remember going fishing with dad. He also made homemade wine for many years, enjoyed a cold beer, was an avid Notre Dame and Cincinnati Reds fan and had a knack to look at something and could see how it should go together. What he truly enjoyed was having his family together. He is survived by his daughters Lola Fisher, Linda Dierckman, Barb Kruthaupt, Ellen Eckstein, Lisa Dierckman, all of Batesville; sons Roger of Dublin, Ohio, Dennis of Katy, Texas, Steve of Buford, Georgia, Bill of Noblesville, Indiana, Bob of Sunman, Indiana; sister Cleora Kuntz of Brookville, Indiana, brothers Joe and Ralph of Batesville; fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, January 4th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to the Rosemary and Melanie Dierckman Oldenburg Academy Scholarship or the Southeast Indiana Health Clinic.
