Estella A. Merkel's Obituary
Estella A. Merkel, age 82 of Batesville, died Friday, September 14, 2007 at her home. Born November 2, 1924 in Decatur County Indiana, she is the daughter of Elizabeth (Nee: Effing) and Dave Schwering. She married Virgil Merkel October 18, 1961 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Millhousen, Indiana and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1985.Estella was a homemaker and loved to garden. She was a member of St. Louis Church and a Charter member of the St. Lawrence Auxiliary #100 of Greensburg. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth “Lisa” Nobbe of Oldenburg, Indiana; sons David of Greensburg, Indiana, Phillip of Batesville, Chris of Osgood, Indiana, Ted of Batesville; sisters Evelyn Johannigman of Millhousen, Lucille Simon and Patricia Simon, both of Osgood; brother Dennis Schwering of Greensburg, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by brothers Thomas, Daniel and Samuel Schwering.Visitation is Monday, September 17th, from 4-8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 18th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund.
