Eugene H. Niese's Obituary
Eugene H. Niese, age 72 of Batesville, died Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Born February 27, 1940 in Batesville, he is the son of Clara (Nee: Dwenger) and William Niese Sr. He married Evelyn Fecher April 8, 1967 at St. Louis Church in Batesville. He served in the army during the Vietnam War and was a diesel mechanic and foreman for Hillenbrand Industries 35 years before retiring in 1999.A mechanic by trade, it was also a part time hobby for Gene. Whenever somebody in the family had a ping or a knock, Gene was called to fix it. He liked spending much of his free time outdoors enjoying nature. A favorite pastime was camping and many weekends were spent at the Versailles or Brookville state parks. When the boys were young, he would often go fishing with his dad and encourage the boys to go along. Evelyn and Gene enjoyed traveling with a trip to Alaska and several to Pigeon Forge among their favorites. Other interests included gardening, country music, the Reader’s Digest and westerns. His passion though, was spending time with his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife Evelyn; daughters Eugenia Feiler of Fairfield, Ohio, Eva Lunsford of Batesville; sons Patrick of Batesville, Thomas of Amherst, Ohio; sister Sharon Lewis of Batesville; brothers Gerald of Batesville, Robert of Millhousen, Indiana, Dennis of Guilford, Indiana, Joseph of Dover, Indiana, William Jr. of New Point, David of Batesville and six grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother Gregory and grandson Austin Feiler.Visitation is Tuesday, September 11th, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 12th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. Memorials may be made to the family.
