Fred C. Metz's Obituary
Fred C. Metz, age 69 of Batesville, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at his residence. Born October 24, 1939 in Batesville, he is the son of Magdalen (Nee: Billman) and Frederick L. Metz. He married Janet Raver June 19, 1965 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. He served in the Navy from 1962 to 1964. Fred was a machinist for General Electric and K.S. Bearings before retiring in 2004. He was a member of the Batesville Knights of Columbus #1461, Oldenburg Conservation Club and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.Fred enjoyed the outdoors. In his earlier years he liked to hunt for rabbits and other small game and go fishing as well. In later years he preferred to go golfing and regularly played at the Cricket Ridge Golf Course. At a young age, he developed an interest for trap shooting which he stayed active with throughout his life and spent many hours at the Oldenburg Conservation Club doing. His family teases that his real passion might have been quality time on the couch watching either golf, the show “Two and Half Men” or the Sci-Fi channel with his dog Abby with him.He is survived by his wife Janet; daughter Ann Hazelwood of Hamburg, Indiana; sisters Linda Uphaus of Columbus, Indiana, Pat Luers of Morris, Indiana and two grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation is Tuesday, May 19th, from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating and Military Honors will be conducted by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Margaret Mary or Batesville E.M.S. 10.
