Frederick R. "Fred" Schene's Obituary
Frederick R. “Fred” Schene, age 58 of Oldenburg, Indiana, died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville, Indiana. Born December 1, 1950 in Batesville, he is the son of Mildred (Nee: Goldsmith) and Alvin Schene. Fred married Catherine Doll, his life partner, on March 14, 1972 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville.Fred was a U.S Navy Vietnam War veteran, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3183 and a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1461. Over the years, he was an avid softball umpire and every chance he had, you could find him at his real passion, on the golf course, playing golf with his family and friends. He bartended for years at Red’s Oasis in Morris and later worked at Cricket Ridge Golf Course as a groundskeeper and bartender.He is survived by his wife Cathy of Oldenburg; son Patrick Schene of Batesville; daughters Chrissy Struewing of Batesville, Toni Cummings and Jackie Schene, both of Oldenburg; sisters Karen Cox of New Palestine, Indiana, Barb Hendrix of Batesville and Bernie Nunlist of Oldenburg; brothers Alvin B. Schene, Mike Schene, Greg Schene and Albert Schene, all of Batesville, Tony Schene and Chris Schene, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren Chase Cummings, Charlie Schene and Breanne May; step-grandchildren Bryanna Lee and Brentney Henschen; step-great-grandchildren Kylie Thomas and Chance Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents.Calling will be on Tuesday, October 27th, from 4 – 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services are Wednesday, October 28th, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg, with Rev. David Kobak, O.F.M. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. Memorials may be made to the family.
