Helen A. Blank's Obituary
Helen A. Blank, age 95 of Batesville, died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born February 10, 1917 in Hamilton, Ohio, she is the daughter of Rose (Nee: Schwier) and Charles “Sandy” Shane. She married Robert Blank August 20, 1949 at St. Louis Church in Batesville and he preceded her in death March 1, 2009. Helen was a longtime secretary and bookkeeper in Cincinnati for publishing companies and a member of the Hillcrest Country Club, St. Louis Church, Daughters of Isabella and the Southeastern Indiana YMCA. She also was former volunteer at the Margaret Mary Hospital gift shop.Helen was a vibrant person who always seemed to wear a smile. A favorite passion for her was golf. As much as she enjoyed playing, she probably loved the social aspect of it more according to her family. She had the unique ability to relate to people of all ages and was truly interested in what they had to say. The twinkle in her eyes made her approachable and her great sense of humor made her easy to talk to. Bill also recalled his mom’s family’s love of music. She would often harmonize with her siblings while doing dishes, toasting the family or anytime they were together. Helen was a devout woman who loved the tranquility of the ocean. The winters she and Bob would spend by the ocean at Myrtle Beach were something she looked forward to each year and provided many fond memories. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Debbie Blank of Batesville; sister Carol Gruber of St. Petersburg, Florida and grandsons Tony and Ben Blank, both of Batesville. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her son Christopher; sisters Sandy Martin, Lily Schmitt, Betty Bowles and brother Jim Shane. Visitation is Monday, November 26th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 27th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Food Pantry or the Southeastern Indiana YMCA.
