Helen C. Gutzwiller's Obituary
Helen C. Gutzwiller, age 77 of Batesville, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Andrew's Health Campus. Born July 23, 1937 in Indianapolis, she is the daughter of Alvina (Nee: Krekeler) and Edwin Bohman. She married Harold "Hans" Gutzwiller July 6, 1968 at St. John's Church in Enochsburg, Indiana and he preceded her in death on October 19, 1997. Helen worked in the housekeeping department of Margaret Mary Hospital for 35 years before retiring and was a member of St. Louis Church.
Helen was very devout. She looked forward to church on Sundays with the added bonus of breakfast or lunch with one of her siblings afterwards. Part of a small church group, she also enjoyed making countless numbers of rosaries over the years given to the missions. In her younger days, she loved watching Lawrence Welk, games shows, seeing the Reds play and attending basketball games. Before Hans died, many will remember he and Helen driving around town daily. If you were in one spot long enough, you might see them go by a couple of times. Her sister's teased about Helen's "collecting" habits that ranged from large amounts to jewelry to cookbooks to records and everything in between.
She is survived by sisters Jo Anne Hazelwood of Batesville, Cheryl Parmer of Enochsburg, Susie Kirschner of Batesville; brothers Jim Bohman of Indianapolis, Richard Bohman of Hamburg, Ken and Steve Bohman, both of Batesville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Visitation is Friday, January 2nd, from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at St. Louis Church. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Damian Cesanek O.F.M., officiating and burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Food Pantry.
