Helen F. Hirt's Obituary
Helen F. Hirt, age 89 of Cincinnati and formerly of Batesville, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at Little Srs. of the Poor. Born December 30, 1921 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Marie (Nee: Welage) and Bernard Moenter. She married Charles Hirt October 26, 1949 at St. Mary’s Church in Greensburg, Indiana. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Louis Church and the St. Louis Ladies Society. Helen’s family described their mom as a simple person. A devout woman, she also donated time to the school helping in the cafeteria and serving on the PTA. She and Charlie, along with their close friends, were part of an informal card club that met several times a month to play “500”. Helen had a love of animals. When her boys were young they had Buttons the dog. In later years after the boys were gone, the neighbor’s dog Cody became their adopted pet and would visit their back door for his daily treats. Helen also enjoyed sewing stuffed animals and would take them to local flea markets. And in her opinion, the only good commercials were ones that used animals in them. In later years she read quite a bit and liked following author Jan Karon’s Mitford series and the Father Tim Novels. Her son remembers mom out in the fields picking blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and turning them into delicious desserts and pies. She is probably most remembered for her Toll House cookies. Helen’s secret ingredient – hickory nuts - gave them a wonderful taste no else’s had. She is survived by her sons Rev. Alan Hirt O.F.M. of Cincinnati, Dennis Hirt of Celina, Ohio; brother Herbert Moenter of Batesville; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by sister Leona Erhardt and brothers Edward, Raymond and William Moenter. Visitation is Friday, July 29th, from 9:30 – 11 a.m. at Little Srs. of the Poor in Cincinnati. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with her son officiating. Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Louis Cemetery in Batesville. The family requests memorials to Little Srs. of the Poor, 476 Riddle Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45220.
