Herman J. Wissel's Obituary
Herman J. Wissel, age 84 of Batesville, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at the St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born November 17, 1923 in Franklin County Indiana, he is the son of Flora (Nee: Erbacher) and Joseph Wissel. Herman farmed and also worked at the Batesville Farmers Feed for 45 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Holy Family Church and the Knight’s of St. John Oldenburg Commandery. Herman was a devout man and never went anywhere without his rosary in his pocket. Being meticulous, he was always picking up branches, paper and the like, to dispose of. He enjoyed the dogs and cats he had around the farm and fishing until his later years. His two real passions were raising chickens and his garden. Although the size of his garden decreased in recent years his passion for gardening did not and the same could be said of his chickens, always keeping at least 15-20 on hand. He is survived by his sister Florence Kreuzman of Batesville; brothers Carl of Batesville and Paul of Oldenburg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sisters Rose McHugh, Mary Kurtz, Rita Meyer and brother Albert Wissel.Visitation will be Thursday, January 24th, from 4–7 p.m. at the funeral home, with a rosary service at 6 p.m. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 25th, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg, with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Eagle Fire Co. or to Batesville E.M.S. 10.
