Howard G. Spencer's Obituary
Howard G. Spencer, age 95 of Greensburg, died Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Decatur County Hospital. Born April 1, 1920 in Hammond, Indiana, he is the son of Malita (Nee: Wirt) and Melvin Spencer. He married Ila Kilbourne May 24, 1944 in South Carolina and she preceded him in death September 24, 1999. Howard served in the Air Force as an aviation mechanic during World War II. After the service he would become a millwright for Youngstown Steel.
Pop's Diner was opened in Greensburg by his granddaughter as a tribute to him, which he took great pride in. Howard liked reading Western novels, taking care of his granddaughters' horse's and putting out a vegetable garden until recent years, when his health prevented him. Family is what matter most to him. He delighted being around the grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, spending as much time with them as he could.
He is survived by his daughters Jill McCon of Amado, Arizona, Glenda Landers of Greensburg, Indiana; brother Kilmer Spencer of Griffith, Indiana; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers Woodard, Robert and Francis Spencer; sisters Ina Barnie, Lovina Spencer and one grandson.
Howard's wishes were to be cremated. There will be no visitation. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church in Greensburg.
