James N. Grote's Obituary
On December 28, 2015 James Nicholas Grote, 72 of Batesville, passed away in his home following a hard-fought battle with leukemia. He was surrounded in love and prayer by his wife and four children. The son of Catherine and Vincent Grote, Jim was born October 1, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio. On December 8, 1973 he married Maureen Sullivan at St. Rose Church in Cincinnati. He built a wonderful family and a wealth of friends, whom he deeply treasured.
An engineer by trade, Jim had a great career in sales, mechanics and innovation – selling patents that would later be used to benefit the healthcare industry. In retirement, Jim worked for the Batesville School Corporation while being an active member of both Kiwanis and the Knights of Columbus Council #1461. Jim was also a member of the Holy Family parish in Oldenburg.
Jim acted as a great mentor to countless people, guiding them through their struggles and helping educate others. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Jim was a tender-hearted jokester with an infectious personality. He made an impact on everyone with whom he crossed paths.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen; their four children: William (Christina) Grote, Anna (Donald Jr.) Ames, Sarah (Bennett) Haeberle and Robert Grote, his seven grandchildren: Jesse, Samantha, Kylie, and Tristan Grote; Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Abigail Ames and his mother Catherine (Jungkunz), sisters Dee Smith and Karen Stilson; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Vincent and granddaughter Rebecca Grote.
Visitation will be Friday, January 1st, from 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, January 2nd, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Jim's wishes were to be cremated following services. A private family interment will be held at a later date. The family requests memorials to Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research or the Holy Family Capital Improvement Fund.
