Pat was a colleague and a friend at BJA. He created community and family in our workplace and made sure everyone he interacted with knew they matter and the work they do matters. He hosted book clubs, publicly acknowledged great individual and team work, and was so proud of his amazing and cutting edge policy team. Pat drove through a snow storm to come to my mother's memorial service when we lost her at the age Pat was when we lost him - too young! That love and friendship meant the world to me. We planted a tree in my Mom's favorite spot and we'll plant one for Pat. My love and empathy go out to Pat's family. He will always be one of the great ones that we all got to spend time with for a while.

Pat, to me was the all American Boy. He could do anything he set his mind to. I was his Younger brother-in-Law and looked up to him in so many ways. When he was just a Trooper on the road, he would take me with him to work the road. He would pull someone over and let me write the ticket. My father had been a state Trooper and I had ridden with him while working, but I never felt a part of the process like with Pat. I truly believe that my father and Pat helped me decide to go into Law Enforcement where I servered 24 years. Pat loved my sister so much that I know he was a brother to me and my siblings. I will miss him greatly. I will also miss him bringing Ice to every family get together....I did truly love the man.

Pat was someone who radiated kindness and light and truly made those around him feel at ease. I met Pat shortly after starting at the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) in 2014 as a grant manager and being assigned a portion of the Justice Information Sharing portfolio. From day one, Pat welcomed me to the team and made me feel like I truly belonged, and that my input and work mattered. Even after I was reassigned to a different program, running into Pat in the hall or at meetings, meant that I was greeted with a genuine smile and an inquiry about my family, or a pat on the back for a job well done on one thing or another. After we heard of Pat’s passing, so many of my colleagues at BJA shared similar sentiments and their own stories about Pat. I can only imagine the loss that Pat’s family feels with his passing. I hope that knowing that Pat’s kind, genuine, positive, and joyous demeaner made an impact on the lives of so many brings a tiny bit of comfort to his family during this difficult time. Patrick was my supervisor and one of the first individuals I met when I started with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) at USDOJ. From there we worked on so many great projects, not only as fellow employees, but also friends. Pat created and supervised an amazing team of "techies" that were too smart, funny to fault, and some real pranksters. No matter the situation, no matter the complexity, no matter the ridiculous timeline, Pat kept his composure, led the team, and got it done. Pat and I, a couple of old cops, use to sit in his office on many of occasion, and just reminisce about our days in uniform, telling stories, admitting on how things have changed, and most of all being thankful for our families and that we were still here to tell the stories. Patrick helped mold me and so many others in our careers with the federal government . . . a watchful eye, always a smile, and being willing to listen . . . a great man, a wonderful boss, a great family man, and an honored public servant. Patrick, just know how much you are missed here at BJA and as my friend. Rest in peace my friend.
