James C. Wissel's Obituary
James C. Wissel, age 68 of Batesville, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at his home. Born July 10, 1946 in Batesville, he is the son of Dolores (Nee: Struewing) and John Wissel. He married Anita Abplanalp July 6, 1968 at St. Louis Church in Batesville. Jim served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After the service, he would go to work for the Batesville Casket Company as an electrician in the maintenance department, retiring in 2010 after 42 years.
Jim's family explained that he was a workaholic, but in a good way. He was a skilled woodworker, who enjoyed making furniture for his daughters or fixing pieces that had broken or fallen into disrepair. He loved being with his grandchildren and attended all the functions and activities they participated in. Jim also liked taking walks and apparently had a pretty big sweet tooth according to his family. His weakness was homemade baked goods and ice cream.
He is survived by his wife Anita; daughters Angela Hartman, Christine Gerdowsky, Jennifer Laker, all of Batesville; sisters Diane Bentfield of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, Marcia Riehle of Batesville; brothers Dennis of St. Augustine, Florida, Marvin of Oldenburg, Herbert of Indianapolis and nine grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation is Monday, May 4th, from 9 - 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at Noon at Holy Family Church with Rev. John Geis officiating. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
