Sr. Jan Kroeger OSF's Obituary
Sister Jan Kroeger, age 88, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died on December 7, 2025, at the Motherhouse in Oldenburg, Indiana. Born Margaret Mary Kroeger on October 6, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the oldest of three children born to the late Edward and Dorothy (nee: Taylor) Kroeger. Her father provided for the family while working for Foy Painting Company and her mother was a housewife.
Sister Jan attended Our Lady of Grace Grade School, Seton High School and then our Lady of Cincinnati. She continued her education at Marian College (now University) in Indianapolis, Indiana and Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Sister Jan entered the Convent on September 8, 1963, and made her final vows on August 12, 1969.
Sister Jan spent eighteen years in education as a teacher, principal, and director of education. Her focus then turned to the role of guidance counselor. beginning at schools in Covington and Cincinnati for eight years and continuing for another six years at ICA (now Oldenburg Academy). Her third calling took her back to Cincinnati as an Assisted Living Coordinator, where she stayed for 14 years.
Sister Jan returned to the Motherhouse in 2016. Upon coming back, she returned to Oldenburg Academy as a volunteer in the School Counseling office and as needed throughout the school. She also worked in the Heritage Room at the convent. Sister Jan found that being back at the Motherhouse allowed her the opportunity to really get to know more of her Sisters, and she made the most of her time here.
Sister Jan is survived by family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Robert (Mary Lou) Kroeger and William Kroeger.
Prayer and visitation will be held Monday, December 29th at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Mass at 11:00 a.m., all at the convent chapel. The burial will be at the Motherhouse Cemetery in Oldenburg.
