Janette F. Munchel's Obituary
Janette F. Munchel, age 94 of Oldenburg, died Friday, August 8, 2014 at St. Andrew's Health Campus. Born April 7, 1920 in Ripley County Indiana, she is the daughter of Bertha (Nee: Schwegman) and John Dierckman. She married William Munchel September 25, 1946 at St. Anthony's Church in Morris, Indiana and he preceded her in death on March 24, 2007. A member of Holy Family Church and a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella, she worked 10 years as a clerk at Stenger's Grocery Store and 20 years in the housekeeping department for the Srs. of St. Francis.
Married to a farmer, Janette was no stranger to work. Raising a family, working at the grocery store and for the convent along with helping on the farm didn't leave a lot of down time. She liked to spend it making quilts and afghans for each member of the family as well as crocheting heirloom quality pieces. Time for television was usually minimal, but she did like games shows and sports, especially football and baseball and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. According to her family, mom was a good cook and made the best apple dumples and sauce along with some darn good fried chicken and broccoli casserole.
She is survived by her daughter Charlene Whitaker of Batesville; sons and daughter-in-laws Darrell and Carol Munchel of Franklin, Indiana, Vernon and Connie Munchel of Milroy, Indiana; son-in-law Art Nobbe of Greensburg, Indiana; 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her daughter Elaine Nobbe; sisters Kathryn Bettice, Romilda Gindling; brother Lawrence Dierckman and three great grandchildren.
Visitation is Monday, August 11th, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 12th at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Eagle Fire Company or Batesville Rescue 10.
