Jerome J. "Jerry" Obermeyer's Obituary
Jerome J. Obermeyer, age 78 of Oldenburg, died Friday, May 28, 2015 at his residence. Born May 12, 1937 in Batesville, he is the son of Marcella (Nee: Goldschmidt) and Leo Obermeyer. Jerry served in the army from 1955 to 1957 and married Jeanne Bohman September 15, 1962 at St. Louis Church in Batesville. He worked 22 years as a shear operator for the Hill-Rom Company, retiring January 10, 2003. He was a member of Holy Family Church, the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of St. John Oldenburg Commandry #220.
Jerry enjoyed many activities. He liked to fish and golf, followed I.U. basketball and to the amusement of his family, was a huge fan of Big Bang Theory. He also enjoyed helping with church and Knights of St. John breakfasts. Jerry's true passion was time spent with family. Cookouts, bon fires and captain of the houseboat, were just some of the family activities he relished. Jeanne and Jerry were able to travel quite a bit, with trips to Alaska and Hawaii among their favorites, although their 50th anniversary cruise proved hard to beat. Jerry had always wanted a corvette. After booking an eight day Caribbean cruise for the whole family he told Jeanne, "There goes my corvette." Each morning on the ship he would find a miniature corvette in his mail box. At one point during the cruise, while watching the kids and grandkids thoroughly enjoying themselves, he looked at Jeanne and told her, "It was worth every penny".........and he ended up with not one, but eight corvettes he could call his own.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne; daughters and son-in-laws Kimberly and Brian Dodson of Osgood, Lisa and Tim Willer of Brookville, Joanie and Randy Powell of Batesville; brothers Gilbert, Ronald, Robert, Edward and Richard Obermeyer, all of Oldenburg; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister Rose Marie Whitfield.
Visitation is Monday, June 1st, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 2nd, at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183. The family requests memorials to the Oldenburg Knights of St. John or Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice.
