Jerome J. Prickel's Obituary
Jerome J. “Bud” Prickel, age 83 of Batesville, died Friday, February 16, 2007, at Margaret Mary Hospital. Born January 21, 1924 in Morris, Indiana, he is the son of Matilda (Nee: Zillebuehler) and Nicholas Prickel. He married Viola Billman October 19, 1946 at St. Louis Church in Batesville and she preceded him in death March 4, 1995. Bud served in the army during WWII. His unit, the 735th Tank Battalion, was involved in several campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. After the service, Bud became an insurance agent with Metropolitan Life for 30 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Louis Church, the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183, the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1130 and the Batesville Knights of Columbus Council #1461, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight.He is survived by daughters Susan Schutte of Napoleon, IN, Debbie Cox of Hamburg, IN, Mary Beth Knueven of Greensburg, IN, Amy Mehlon of Batesville, Audrey Miller of Plainfield, IN; sons Nicholas of Harrison, OH, Tim of Terre Haute, IN; sister Marcia Werner of Indianapolis, IN; brother Mark of Morris, IN; 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters Connie Metz, Sr. Mary Luke Prickel O.S.F. and his brother John.Visitation is Monday, February 19th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, with a rosary service at 6 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 20th, at St. Louis Church with the Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183. Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis Convent.
