John B. Bogenschutz's Obituary
John B. “Jack” Bogenschutz, age 77 of Batesville, died Monday, February 9, 2009, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born February 10, 1931 in Covington, Kentucky, he is the son of Lucille (Nee: Thien) and Joseph Bogenschutz. He taught at Batesville High School for 25 years before retiring from teaching full time in 1986. He spent 10 more years substitute teaching at several of the schools in the Batesville area. He was a charter member of the Margaret Mary Hospital Board of Directors as well as the hospital’s Community Mental Health Foundation Board.During his early years, he was active in the production of plays at the high school and was a long time member of the Holy Family Bowling League and league secretary. However, Jack’s true passion in life was writing, music and literature. Through the years he penned thousands of poems and short stories. Jack also had humorous side that led him to also pen limericks as well as his own epitaph: Here liesGood teacher Jack He’s really not here But he’ll be back.Like all he awaits The day of resurrection Let’s hope he’s gone In the right direction.Among his favorite music was classical and big band tunes, but according to his family, his tastes were eclectic and he would also listen to folk musicians like Joan Baez to country artists such as Johnny Cash. An avid reader, he enjoyed non fiction, but spent countless hours study works of history and theology. He is survived by daughters Teresa Hall of Zionsville, Indiana, Judith Wilson of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Deborah Hartman of Oldenburg; sons Thomas and Anthony, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother Jerry of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky and 12 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by son Michael and his brother Bill.Visitation is Sunday, February 15th, from 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary service at 1 p.m. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 16th, at St. Louis Church, with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Margaret Mary Hospital.
