John W. Nobbe's Obituary
John W. Nobbe, age 81 of Batesville, Indiana, died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at his residence. Born August 20, 1928 in Batesville, he is the son of Alvina (Nee: Dwenger) and William Nobbe. He married Alice Yager August 23, 1950 in Rushville, Indiana.He was a route driver for Blue Flame LP Gas for 30 years, before retiring and was a member of Holy Family Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1461 and the Oldenburg Conservation Club. John was an avid sports fan, especially Batesville sports, following through the years, his children and grandchildren who were playing. For a number of years, he coached Little League at Holy Family Church and also loved to bowl at the bowling lanes at the church.According to his family, he “loved to eat”, most especially home cooked meals and homemade pies. He enjoyed working on his farm and spending time riding on his tractor. John enjoyed playing cards including “500” and Solo. One of his main enjoyments was just having conversations with different people whom he knew or just met.He is survived by his wife Alice of Batesville; daughters Ruth Ann (Ben) Starost of Oldenburg, Marjorie (Perry) Suding and Bernice (Mike) Rosemeyer, both of Sunman, Indiana; sons Roy (Deb) Nobbe of Greensburg, Indiana, Arthur (Elaine) Nobbe, Frank (Victoria) Nobbe and Andrew (Anne) Nobbe, all of Batesville and Bernard (Lisa) Nobbe of Sunman; brothers Ambrose Nobbe of Batesville and James Nobbe of Greensburg; sisters Lucille Effinger of Batesville and Eileen Moorman of Millhousen, Indiana; 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Jason Starost; brothers Richard, Raymond and Harold Nobbe and sister Rosemary Koors.Visitation is Wednesday, October 28th, from 4 – 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services are Thursday, October 29th, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg, Indiana, with Rev. David Kobak, O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Holy Family Cemetery Fund or to the Oldenburg Boys and Girls Little League.
